New for 2023.
We’re delighted to announce that our ecoengineering research and development organisation Artecology is launching a new initiative called "Artecology CoCreate" that will provide communities, schools, colleges, universities, not-for-profits, and other groups with the opportunity to learn about, and implement Artecology's proven techniques for creating ecoengineered solutions.
As the world faces increasing environmental challenges, the need for innovative and regenerative solutions has never been greater. At Artecology we have dedicated ourselves to developing and promoting such solutions through ecoengineering, which involves using novel processes and resources to design and build infrastructure and systems that support and enhance biodiversity by creating lifecycle resources for wildlife in urban settings.
Through Artecology CoCreate, participants will have the chance to learn firsthand from our experts and work alongside them to develop and implement ecoengineering solutions in their own communities. Not only will this program provide valuable hands-on learning and experience for participants, but it will also help to promote the adoption of ecoengineered solutions on a wider scale. By working with and educating communities, we hope to inspire and empower individuals and organisations to take action and make a positive impact on the places where they live.
“We are excited to launch Artecology CoCreate and share our knowledge and expertise with others who are passionate about finding regenerative solutions," said Artecology co-founder and Arc Biodiversity & Climate co-director Nigel George. "We believe that by working together and learning from each other, we can accelerate the adoption of place specific so called ‘Hybrid Nature Based Solutions’ and make a real difference for the planet."
The role of the arts.
For us at Artecology the arts have always played a key role in demystifying science and engineering, making these quite often exclusive fields more accessible and relatable to a wider audience. Artecology CoCreate recognises the value of incorporating the arts in this process, not just in the quest for functional designs but also as a holistic approach that engages the imagination and creativity of participants. By bridging the gap between science and the arts, Artecology CoCreate is able to bring together diverse communities and create a more inclusive learning/training environment. Our innovative program not only helps to demystify ecoengineering, but also shows how the arts and sciences can work together to create positive change for the environment.
Training the trainers.
In addition to providing a wide range of groups with the opportunity to learn and implement our ecoengineering solutions, our scheme will also train a new cohort of Artecology CoCreate trainers. These individuals will gain the skills and knowledge to then go on and lead Artecology CoCreate workshops in their own communities, helping to further promote the adoption of ecoengineered solutions. By building a network of trained individuals who are passionate about regenerative action and ecoengineering, we hope to create a ripple effect that will inspire and empower even more individuals and organisations to take action and make a positive impact on the environment.
Job creation.
Our team also believes the new scheme has the potential to create local jobs because of the way we use unique hand-making techniques to create our ecoengineered solutions, which require skilled labour and craftsmanship. By partnering with and training individuals and organisations in these techniques, Artecology CoCreate has the potential to create employment opportunities in the communities where the solutions are being implemented.
This not only has the potential to provide much-needed jobs and economic benefits to these communities, but it also helps to promote the use of locally-sourced materials, skills and techniques, which can further contribute to the quest for sustainable solutions.
Artecology CoCreate is a win-win for society, as it not only helps to address environmental challenges through the implementation of ecoengineered solutions, but it also has the potential to create local jobs, stimulate the local economy and engagement with regenerative action.
Systems thinking.
Artecology CoCreate takes a "systems thinking" approach to notions of growth and scaling, which means that it considers the interconnectedness and interdependence of all elements within a system. This approach is essential for creating truly regenerative solutions, as it recognises that no element can be considered in isolation and that small changes can have ripple effects throughout the entire system.
In the context of Artecology CoCreate, this means that we consider not only the environmental impacts of the eco engineered solutions being implemented but also the social and economic impacts on the communities where the solutions are being deployed. By considering the needs and values of all stakeholders and working to create mutually-beneficial outcomes, Artecology CoCreate can help to deliver solutions that are more sustainable in the long term.
This systems thinking approach is an integral part of our philosophy and is reflected in all of our work, including the new Artecology CoCreate initiative. By taking this holistic approach to notions of growth and scaling, our CoCreate program can help to deliver solutions that are not only good for the environment but also good for society.
Funding.
There are several ways that a "good for society and environment" project like Artecology CoCreate might be funded. One possibility is through grants from foundations or government agencies that support arts, community, sustainability, and environmental initiatives. These grants can provide financial support for the development and delivery of projects, as well as for ongoing operations.
Another possibility is through corporate sponsorships or partnerships. Many companies are increasingly recognising the importance of sustainability and the role that they can play in supporting initiatives that benefit society and the environment. By partnering with a project like Artecology CoCreate, companies can not only provide financial support but also bring additional resources and expertise to the table.
Overall, there are many different ways that a forward-thinking project like Artecology CoCreate can be funded, and it is likely that a combination of these approaches will be necessary to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the project.
